Dr. Savage has worked with hundreds of chemically dependent clients and their families. He believes in a client-centered approach in helping both the individual and family members understand the illness of addiction. He facilitates a practical path to recovery using the assets that the clients and their family members already possess.
Dr. Savage entered the field of counseling at the Hazelden Foundation in 1984 and remained there helping clients in various capacities for fourteen years. He first worked on a primary care inpatient unit as a counselor then moved to one of Hazelden’s extended care facilities in St. Paul. There he worked as a counselor and clinical supervisor of a staff whose purpose was to help clients reintegrate into daily life and the workplace and reunite with their families.
Most recently Dr. Savage has worked in private practice helping chemically dependent clients in an outpatient setting with their recovery issues and the often-associated mental health complications.
