How Are Interventions Done?

An intervention is more than a group meeting with the goal of urging a loved one into recovery. AiR Model interventions focus on helping the family understand the disease, and learn tools that will help families regain confidence and lose guilt or shame. The intervention also puts everyone on the same page with regard to the addiction and its implications to the family.

Step 1

Your first phone call to an AiR: Assistance in Recovery puts you in touch with a licensed professional who can help you decide if intervention is the right choice for your family.

After your initial conversation, we begin making order of the mess created by the behavioral health problem. We make preparations for the intervention through:

  • Providing clear, thorough directions for you and others
  • Keeping your personal circumstances in mind
  • Initiating contact with the correct treatment facilities
  • Continued communication with you

Step 2

You and those concerned for your loved one meet with a designated clinician for information on the disease your family has been faced with, and how to end the cycle of destruction caused by the behavioral health problem. During this time you:

  • Understand the actions of the individual are not anyone’s fault
  • Learn to regain confidence and lose any feelings of guilt and shame
  • Create healthy boundaries
  • Agree on options to provide your loved one during the intervention

Step 3

One of those involved in the intervention will contact the individual and plan a meeting. The person initiating the get together will typically be someone who regularly meets with or has contact with the person for whom you are holding the intervention.

The meeting usually begins with each person addressing the individual regarding specific concerns about the destructive behavior and how it affects him or her personally. After everyone has shared, the interventionist explains the options agreed upon and will facilitate entrance to the treatment facility.
